Emilia Clarke Says Doing Nudity On "Games Of Thrones" Made Her Turn Down "Fifty Shades"
The showrunners of the recently concluded Game Of Thrones are personas non gratas with a lot of people right now. And we can add robbing us of a Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy with an actress who might have had marginally better chemistry with her co-star to the list of grievances against them. I know it’s a stretch, adding Jason Momoa as Christian Grey would have been the only way Fifty Shades could have been improved. In a recent interview for The Hollywood Reporter, Emilia Clarke, who, whether she likes it or not (and I’m pretty sure she likes it not), will be forever associated with her GOT character Daenerys Targaryen, revealed that flashing her titties in GOT is the reason she turned down the starring role in Fifty Shades.
According to Emilia, even though she only did “a minimal amount” of nudity a long time ago, it’s still all anybody ever asks her about. And she was afraid that if she became the poster child for vanilla BDSM, she’d be typecast as nothing more than a common titty shower.
Well, Sam [Taylor-Johnson, the director] is a magician. I love her, and I thought her vision was beautiful. But the last time that I was naked on camera on [Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman. And it’s annoying as hell and I’m sick and tired of it because I did it for the character — I didn’t do it so some guy could check out my tits, for God’s sake. So, that coming up, I was like, “I can’t.” I did a minimal amount and I’m pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff, I was just like, “No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, ‘No, you can’t keep asking me this question.’ “
This isn’t the first time Emilia’s cited concerns about being “pigeonholed” as a Never Never Nude. Back in 2015 she said almost the exact same thing about turning down Fifty Shades because of the nudity, adding that she stopped Googling herself because of mouth breathers commenting on her body. But I have to say, after all that’s happened on the show since then, I doubt anybody’s thinking about Emilia’s breasts anymore. I’m sure that now that Game of Thrones is over, the only question people are going to be asking her about for years to come is when the new season 8 coming out (since she’s already told us what Jason’s packing).
