Jonathan Cheban slams ‘jerk’ Jason Gardiner for being so mean to Gemma Collins
Jonathan Cheban has blasted Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner for being mean to his pal Gemma Collins.
The US star flew in to support his pal, who he met on Celebrity Big Brother , as she performed on the rink in the first live show.
And while he was blown away by The GC ‘s show-stopping performance – splits and all – he was less than impressed with "jerk" Jason’s nasty comments.
During an exclusive chat with Mirror Online, he said: "I thought Gemma was amazing. I think she stole the show, obviously, any friend of mine would steal the show. That’s how it is.
"I think [Jason]’s a jerk. I think he was a jerk to all of them but I guess that’s his job, I think it’s what he gets off on to talk to people like that.
"I just think it’s their first day, they’ve been working their asses off, you don’t have to be that vicious on their first day, at least give them some kind of motivation to go practice.
"If someone’s telling you how horrible you are on the first day, like I wouldn’t want to do any more, so I think it’s a terrible approach giving people 2.5. What a jerk."
TOWIE star Gemma skated to Beyonce’s Crazy In Love with her partner Matt Evers.
Her routine was action-packed, and saw Gemma do the splits and channel her inner (and outer) diva.
Jonathan, a global ambassador of restaurant chain BurgerIM, who is also known as his food blogging alter ego ‘Foodgod’, added: "To me, Gemma is pure entertainment, she’s the show, without her I don’t even know if there’s a show because I’m not interested.
"She’s who everyone was waiting to see, they saved her to last, and they gave her no credit for the entertainment value and the judges should consider everything, the outfits, the entertainment, they’re not professional ice skaters.
"Don’t say, ‘Oh you made a turn over here and you were stiff’, of course she’s stiff."
Jonathan, who is also known for his appearances on Celebs Go Dating and Keeping Up With The Kardashians alongside best pal Kim Kardashian , said while he thinks Gemma has everything the show needs, he’s not sure if she’ll go on to win it.
He told us: "I don’t know [if she can win], I mean it’s very tough and everyone is so brutal and critical on her instead of taking her for the entertainment value.
"They take it literally and that p****s me off because she works so hard and the fact that she even knows how to ice skate is one thing, the fact that she can do the splits and put on a show where everyone was excited to see her, I think they were way too critical.
"I wish I was a judge on that show, I’d be a way better judge than them. If that guy [Jason]’s going to be a jerk he has to at least be witty and he’s just mean and not witty and that doesn’t work.
"You’ve got to motivate people too, that’s what makes a great judge."
