Rick Grimes' connection to Fear The Walking Dead has finally been confirmed

Rick Grimes is an inescapable presence in the Walking Dead franchise, so it was only a matter of time before a connection was made between the sheriff’s deputy and Fear The Walking Dead.

Andrew Lincoln’s character departed the main show last year on a mysterious helicopter along with the equally mysterious Anne, who labelled Rick a ‘B’ when communicating with the pilot.

And with Walking Dead producers having quickly announced that Rick will live on in a series of spin-off movies, it’s little surprise that the showrunners of Fear The Walking Dead have finally connected his fate with events in their show.

Last night’s episode, Skidmark, saw the characters’ search for Al result in the Walking Dead franchise’s second sighting of the helicopter which whisked Rick away in What Comes After.

Yup: a black helicopter with the letter A daubed in white on the door, with a three-ringed symbol also painted on the side of the chopper.

‘Those people, they came in that,’ Max said about Al’s potential kidnappers as the helicopter flew away, with Annie suggesting: ‘Maybe they got what they came for…’

Perhaps Al is, unlike Rick, worthy of being classed as an ‘A’, and has therefore been whisked away to the same as-yet-undisclosed location as Rick was in The Walking Dead?

Speculation is what we mostly have at the moment, though – but at least we’ve finally been treated to a clear connection between Fear The Walking Dead and the seemingly immortal Rick Grimes.

Walking Dead fans would be wise to keep an eye on events in the spin-off, then: further clues about the helicopter-possessing community may now spring up…

Fear The Walking Dead airs on AMC UK on Mondays.
