Topshop insider reveals how you can nab the best bargains, including 20 per cent off on your birthday
TOPSHOP has long been the go-to store for fashionable twenty-somethings – but with prices that might make some eyes water, it's important to find the right deal before you shop.
With t-shirts costing as much as £20, and even a casual jeans and jumper look totting up to over £100, their young following can't always keep up with the price tags.
And if that wasn't difficult enough, those who visit the store floor often will know it can be a bit of a maze, with the best bits hidden away and difficult to find.
Plus the most sought-after styles of the season sell out in no time – unless you know were to find them.
While the shop appears to be constantly at war with retailers with lower prices, selling dresses at fractions of those at Topshop, there are plenty of secrets to getting a good deal.
An anonymous worker spoke to the Mirror to reveal the most sought after tips that we should all be looking out for before our next shop.
Eyes on the sale
While big sales are definitely worth keeping your eye out for, flash reductions happen all year round at the store, offering seasonal clothes at low prices.
At the moment, there's a 'Bank Holiday edit' that is seeing 30 per cent off all summer essentials – with deals available online and in store, if you can get there quick enough.
If you're in for a big blow-out, the shop worker recommends looking out for the Christmas Eve 'secret sale', which sees many items reduced to clear before the end of the year.
Prices are re-written on the back of the price tag in pencil – so if you're looking to get a bargain, the night before Christmas is a good time to go.
Free personal shopping
Big stores like that in Oxford Circus, London, can be a little overwhelming even to seasoned shoppers – but you can get some help for free.
If you're after the perfect outfit for a fancy occasion – like a wedding or birthday party – ask one of the personal shoppers to give you a helping hand.
All you have to do is let them known your budget and roughly what you might want, and they can do all the hard work for you for free.
These personal shoppers also have the power to invite you to private events in-store and previews of the latest collections, so they're worth making friends with.
If you sign up to Topshop's free mailing list not only do you get a heads up on sales, but they'll throw in a 20 per cent discount on your birthday.
While it can only be used on one transaction, and not in conjunction with other deals, it applies to all items both in store and online.
Want to hit the shops but would rather not face the crowds at the entrance? Some branches have secret side door entrances to save you the hassle of fighting thrown other shoppers.
On the Oxford Street branch, head to Miss Selfridge next door and slip through the side door between the shops to find yourself suddenly by the Topshop escalators.
A free bag
Watch out for new stores opening nearby, because if one is launching in your area, you might be able to get a free tote bag when you visit.
To celebrate the opening of new shops, bosses give out the free bags to the first 100 people through the doors on their first day.
This was the case last July when the new Topshop and Topman in Lincoln's Waterside Shopping Centre was opened, seeing shoppers receive the free gift.
Plus, those who spend more than £40 in one transaction on opening day were given a free bonus item, plus the chance to win a £100 shopping spree.
When shopping online, it's fairly common to check for any voucher codes that might be out there before you buy.
If you're a student you can often grab 10 per cent off all year round, increasing to 20 per cent around October and before Christmas as the years draws to a close.
But for those who aren't, it's always worth looking online for flash codes as, while very rare, they do come around from time to time.
Find the best items fast
If you like to keep up with the latest trends, the 'Trending Now' tab on the Topshop website shows the most popular pieces that have just dropped in.
Right now 'snakeskin skirts' are in, and the best way to find them is to check out the tab.
And if you've spotted something on social media you love, such as Instagram models posing in the Topshop clothes, you're most likely to find them there, too.
Not only to staff that work at Topshop get a huge 60 per cent uniform discount to spend on clothes for their shifts, they also get discounts for their friends and family. Ranging from 20 per cent to 30 per cent off, these vouchers can be given to anyone staff want to pass the discount on to.Staff also get 25 per cent off any other stores that are part of the Arcadia branch, which also includes Dorothy Perkins and Burton. But the only drawback is, staff discount cards cannot be used online, so you'll have to make a trip down to your nearest store.
In other news, ASOS is selling a neon green unitard which is completely see-through and shoppers are horrified.
Plus, a UK firm are set to sell the world's biggest knickers at a size FIFTY, and they've already sold 1,000 pairs.
And if you're looking for more bargains, you can get a £10 Primark gift card for just £5 on Groupon for a limited time only.
