Holland and Barrett launch vegan salted caramel ice cream made from AVOCADO

There was a time when following a plant-based diet meant waving goodbye to ice cream.

However, as many sweet–toothed vegans will know, the cruelty–free dessert market has recently seen an influx of new products. 

Last week, we broke the news that fancy chocolatier Hotel Chocolat had unveiled vegan ice lollies in time for the summer. 

And now, a new contender steps into the ring with the launch of Holland and Barrett’s Vegan Salted Caramel ice cream made from AVOCADO.

Exclusive to Holland & Barrett, the range of vegan and organic ice creams come in three tempting flavours.

Sweet and tangy Passion Fruit and indulgent Peanut Butter use a coconut-base instead of dairy.

Meanwhile, the Salted Caramel variety uses avocado – meaning ice cream now officially grows on trees!

Starting as a simple toast-topper, the fruit now appears in everything from coffee to Easter eggs, even getting its own emoji at the end of 2018. 

Amy Tolofari, Nutritionist at Holland & Barrett, explained: “Avocado and coconut act as the perfect alternatives to dairy in ice cream, bringing a host of health benefits to the range.”

“Avocado’s buttery texture means you get the same creamy consistency as you would expect from normal ice cream, with none of the dairy.”

Google searches for ‘Vegan ice-cream’ have almost doubled in the past two years, with the trend only set to increase in popularity.

Halo Top, Alpro, Ben & Jerry’s and Häagen-Dazs have all brought out animal–free variations of their popular ranges.
