"Old woman’ cuts down family’s Christmas lights in middle of the night
CCTV captured the moment an ‘old woman’ creeped into a family’s front garden and cut down their flashing Christmas lights.
The woman can be seen walking up to the tree, which is wrapped in flashing lights, and using a knife to snip the cable, plunging the garden into darkness.
The incident happened in Cottingham, East Yorkshire in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Dan Hubbert, 41, said the woman could have “electrocuted herself” when she snipped the festive lights, reports Hull Live.
Mr Hubbert said he would have called the police if young people had cut the lights but didn’t know what to do after seeing it was actually an older woman.
He said: "Everyone wants me to ring the police on her. She should pay for them.
"If it was youth, I would’ve been straight on the blower to the police but she’s old.
“It could have caused an electrical fault or even electrocuted herself.
“You can’t start going across the road and chopping down lights.
“I think I will call 101 and get them to go and have a word.”
Mr Hubbert admits he is “not that bothered” about the incident given the sedate nature of it, and admits he finds it funny.
“I’m not that bothered really. I’m trying to find the funny side,” the dad of two said.
“(My children) just think it’s funny as well. It is quite funny to see her toddle along and cut them.”
He believes the cost of replacing the small section of lights will be just £20.
He added that he would have rather have had a discussion with his neighbour or been sent a letter if having them on overnight upset anyone.
Mr Hubbert said he would have had no problem taking them down or turning them off on a night if the woman had told him his lights caused a problem.
