Charlize Theron Dyed Her Hair Brown Hours Before The Oscars
Charlize Theron hit the Oscars red carpet in a backless Haute Couture Christian Dior dress—but all eyes were on her new dark brown hair color. Theron tasked celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel and colorist Tracey Cunningham to dye and chop her hair mere hours before the awards show.

Hair is your greatest accessory! Changing your hair is best way to transform yourself. And, why not? This week we changed @charlizeafrica look. We changed her color earlier this week and this morning we chopped off her hair. ♥️ Thank you @traceycunningham1 for helping me achieve this color vision, and thank you @virtuelabs and @ghd_northamerica for creating a gorgeous and shiny hair look! This isn’t the first time the Academy Award winner has had brown hair, but we haven’t seen her as anything but her signature blonde in years. “Hair is your greatest accessory and the best way to transform a look quickly. This week we changed @charlizeafrica color and this morning we chopped off her hair,” wrote Theron’s hairstylist Abergel on Instagram. “Thank you @traceycunningham1 for helping me achieve this vision and thank you @virtuelabs and @ghd_northamerica for making the hair gorgeous and shiny.”
Not only is Theron wearing custom Dior, but she’s also an ambassador for the brand (you’ve no doubt seen her J’Adore commercials). Her cornflower blue gown looked demure and clean at the front, with a strong angular and darted shoulder. It had a dramatic cut-out down the back, serving as the perfect canvas for her new dark and short bob. She accessorized the dress with a Bulgari diamond necklace, bracelet, and emerald earrings. Her electric orange-red lipstick was applied by celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee.
This wasn’t the only major hair transformation seen at this year’s Oscars. Emilia Clarke also debuted a short chestnut brown hair color on the red carpet, having dyed it back from blonde. E! News reports that Clarke allegedly dyed her hair herself (!) using boxed hair dye from the pharmacy. “Blondes have more fun eh?! Well I will see about that this fine #oscar2019evening….. let the good times roll,” Clarke captioned a selfie on Instagram.
