Artist Judy Chicago on her career, advice for young women
Feminist artist Judy Chicago — who has a retrospective show at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami — said at a Fontainebleau lunch during Art Basel Miami that her most famous work, “The Dinner Party,” has been a blessing and a curse.
“For a very long time I used to say I hoped I lived to see the body of my work, my career, emerge from the shadow of ‘The Dinner Party,’ ” she said.
“Because even though I was very, and am, gratified for the attention it brought me . . . still for a really long time it obscured the fact that I’m in the sixth decade of my production.”
She advised women artists today, “Make trouble and kick ass!”
