Beyoncé Once Told Victoria Beckham That the Spice Girls Inspired Her Own Career

Never underestimate the power of the Spice Girls.

During a new interview on Dear Media’s Breaking Beauty podcast per Entertainment Tonight, Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham chatted with hosts Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins about how a few years prior, Beyoncé expressed to her that the Spice Girls inspired her own iconic career.

“I met Beyoncé a few years ago, and she actually said to me, ‘It was the Spice Girls that inspired me and made me want to do what I do and made me proud to be a girl and proud to be who I am,'” Beckham shared. “And when someone like Beyoncé, who is so iconic and was such a strong woman, says that she was inspired by the Spice Girls, I think that’s quite something.”

Clearly, Bey’s inspiration paid off; Destiny’s Child is considered one of the most successful girl groups of all time, and Beyoncé herself just made history as the most awarded woman in Grammys history.

Beckham was a member of the Spice Girls, which formed in 1994, but declined joining her fellow bandmates for another reunion tour in 2019, stating that she had simply moved on to a new era in her career and personal life.

“It took me a lot of courage not to go on tour with the Spice Girls again, but to be the one who says: ‘You know, I’m not doing it because things feel different now than they used to’,” the designer previously said. “I’d rather concentrate on my family and my company. I’m 45 now and very happy to be the woman I am.”
