Country Legend Charley Pride Dead At 86

Country legend Charley Pride has passed away at the age of 86 due to complications from COVID-19.

America’s first Black Country star, Pride was born in Mississippi and went on to become the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the first Black person to host the Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) in 1975.

His final performance was just last month at the 2020 CMAs, at which he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Well, you might not believe but I’m nervous as can be. All the people have been influenced by my life, what my life has been influenced by, I got to say something about some of them,” Pride said during his acceptance speech, followed by a long list of his influences.
