Dancing on Ice’s Joey Essex ‘almost lost finger’ in scary accident during training
Joey Essex has revealed that he almost lost a finger during training for his appearance on Dancing On Ice.
The Former TOWIE star, 32, appeared on This Morning, alongside his fellow competitors, The Wanted's Siva Kaneswaran and Team GB gymnast Nile Wilson.
Asked by hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary if he was particularly nervous about appearing on the ITV series, Joey revealed that he's sustained a number of injuries during his training.
"I'm just happy to be here right now and I'm not at the competition yet. I mean, I nearly lost a finger, I nearly lost a kneecap, a shoulder" he said.
"And now I'm on the ice and I feel ready but there's room for improvement."
Dermot then asked the TV star to explain what he meant by almost losing a finger, to which Joey explained: "It was actually the first day of meeting the guys. It was yeah, it was a bit of a disaster, to be honest.
"I went backwards over my finger and we were actually talking about losing my finger at that moment in time. And then I skated off. These [cameras] weren't even on the ice. The cameras weren't rolling at that point.
"It was over like, skate over and there was blood everywhere. It was awful."
Joey has recently sparked rumours of a romance between himself and his skating partner Vanessa Bauer, after they shared a number of cosy-looking snaps to their Instagram pages.
After posting a snap of themselves at the TV Choice Awards, their comments sections quickly filled with fans theorising over the nature of their relationship.
One fan wrote: "I can feel another scandal coming on" while another added: “Look so good together!”
Insiders have also told The Sun that Joey and Vanessa have been rather flirty during rehearsals, ahead of the show's start this weekend.
A source told the publication: “Joey and Vanessa have grown close incredibly quickly. Right now they have managed to keep everything professional but it’s safe to say they are both super flirty.
"They are going to spend a lot of time together over the next few months due to rehearsals so it’s easy to see how romance could blossom."
The source said that flirting should not come as a surprise, given that “Vanessa is stunning and Joey has always been a charmer.”
“As soon as he was paired up with her those who know him reckoned he’d fancy her like mad, and he’s clearly not wasting any time making a move,” they added.
