Dolly Parton’s younger brother ‘renaissance man’ Floyd dies aged 61

There was sad news for country music legend Dolly Parton after it was revealed that her younger brother Floyd, has died aged 61.

According to Aitchley Funeral Home in Tennessee, Floyd died on December 6.

Floyd was famous for writing a number of his 72-year-old sister’s biggest country hits, including Rockin’ Years in 1991 and Nickels and Dimes from 1978.


The funeral company’s website has posted an obituary to Floyd, writing: "A renaissance man, Floyd was a man of many talents and areas of knowledge

"He was an avid outdoorsman and had an abundant knowledge of nature as well as being an incredible cook."

Floyd has been survived by ten of his 12 brothers and sisters, including Dolly.

Most of those born to Robert and Avie Lee Parton forged a career in music.

Stella, one of Floyd’s sisters, had tweeted that she was, "spending the day with my beautiful brother Floyd," and this was to be his last day of his life.

Floyd’s funeral, according to the funeral website, was held in private.
