Gwyneth Paltrow Basically Thinks She Invented Yoga and Is So Happy Her Breakup with Brad Pitt Happened in the '90s
The 46-year-old mother of two also spills an unusual fun fact about co-parenting with ex-husband Chris Martin.
Yoga has been around for centuries, but Gwyneth Paltrow is crediting herself with putting the ancient practice back on the map.
"I remember when I started doing yoga and people were like, ‘What is yoga? She’s a witch. She’s a freak,’" the actress and founder of wellness brand Goop told WSJ Magazine. "Forgive me if this comes out wrong, but I went to do a yoga class in L.A. recently, and the 22-year-old girl behind the counter was like, ‘Have you ever done yoga before?’ And literally I turned to my friend, and I was like, ‘You have this job because I’ve done yoga before.’"
The 46-year-old mother of two also opened up about her ex-fiancé, Brad Pitt, who she famously dated for over two years before calling it quits in 1997.
Paltrow told WJS Mag she’s thankful the breakup happened when it did, because of the intensity of public scrutiny on celebrities today.
"Cameron Diaz and I talk about this all the time," she said. "We’re like, ‘Thank God in the early ’90s there were [so few] paparazzi. Thank God.’ We cry in gratitude that no one was following us around and seeing what we were doing."
"I remember when Brad Pitt and I broke up, it was on the cover of the New York Post and there was no one outside my house," she added. "That would never happen today."
Paltrow’s next high-profile relationship was with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who she divorced in 2016. Priding herself on their unique approach to co-parenting, Paltrow told the mag her ex actually has a room in her house to say in while she is traveling.
To each their own, right?
These days, Paltrow is married to "American Horror Story" co-creator Brad Falchuk. They walked down the aisle on Sept. 29 in Amagansett, New York, and she’s "very optimistic" about their future.
"It’s fantastic. I feel so lucky and I am so grateful," she said in an interview a few weeks after the ceremony. "It’s different to be in your mid-40s; do it again and bring all your experience, your pain, your happiness, suffering — everything. It’s actually very heartening. I feel very optimistic!"
Paltrow’s full interview appears in the December/January issue of WSJ Magazine, on newsstands Dec. 15.
