Harry and William ‘reliving Princess Diana’s funeral’ leaves fans ‘broken’

People have taken to social media to share their sympathy for Prince Harry and Prince William who are currently mourning the death of their grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen.

The monarch’s death is the second close family member the two brothers have lost following their mother Princess Diana dying in 1997 in a car crash.

Princess Diana’s funeral was a well-documented affair, similar to the ongoing services taking place to honour the Queen.

Harry, 37, and William, 40, stood side-by-side earlier today, Wednesday 14 September, as their grandmother’s coffin made its way from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

Both looked understandably downcast as they followed on-foot behind the Queen’s coffin as part of the procession.

In light of the Queen’s passing and the two brothers having to publicly mourn a close relative once again, royal fans have compared the Queen’s services to that of the late Princess Diana’s.

Voicing their sympathy for the pair, one person wrote: “Harry was just 12 & William 15, when their mother Diana died. They had to walk behind their mother’s coffin with the world watching, at such tender & pivotal ages. None of us have had to do that with the world watching. So thoughts with them now. It will be triggering”.

“Watching this now and my heart really aches for Prince William & Harry last time they had to walk behind a coffin was at their late mothers Princess Diana's funeral,” wrote someone else during today’s procession.

“William and Harry must be reliving Diana's funeral and that breaks my heart,” penned a third.

Another person went on: “This procession is making me a little weepy, and I don’t know why. Maybe seeing William and Harry walk behind the coffin reminds me of Diana’s funeral.”

Echoing similar sentiments, someone else said: “Whatever you think of Prince William and Harry, this procession must have brought back so many sad memories of their mother, Princess Diana’s funeral.”
