Noel Fitzpatrick, 53, has become a media sensation over the past decade, but despite his rising reputation he still gets shy around other celebrities. So much so that he openly admits peeing on his own hand after running into Bono in the toilets of a U2 gig he attended in Dublin’s Croke Park.
The last time I nearly ran into him, I peed on my own hand in the toilets
In a new interview, the Supervet recalled the little accident and confessed he really, really wants to meet the musician properly.
“I have never met Bono,” he laughed, “I would love to meet Bono!
“The last time I nearly ran into him, I peed on my own hand in the toilets where he came in to have a pee, I got so nervous.”
Noel, who is set to appear on Sunday Brunch this morning, admitted he still hasn’t come to terms with his own fame, telling The Irish Times: “I still feel like just a small boy from Ballyfin, and when I am at concerts.
“I can escape everything in my mind and also everything in life, because I get fully involved emotionally.”
Recently, he remembered the first time he was recognised, which ironically, was at another concert and he wondered what the fan was doing.
He explained: “I was at a concert and somebody was taking a picture on their phone.
“I said, ‘Mate, the band are that way.’ The guy said, ‘No, I was taking a picture of you.’ I am like, ‘What? Bizarre.’
“Then all of a sudden, the penny dropped.”
And despite living alone in a surprisingly modest flat with his pets, he’s said to be worth an estimated £16 million.
“I am still walking by the same river. I am still in the same house I’ve been in for 25 years,” he laughed.
“I am still building the practice.”
Noel cheekily added to the Mail Online: “Look how much I owe the bank.
“I think I owe them several million and you have to pay the overheads and the wages every month.”
With The Supervet in its 16th series, the world is his oyster, but for the medic it isn’t about the fame, it’s all about spreading the wider message.
“I do the media stuff because I would like to build a platform to change the way medicine is done and show that we are not alone on the planet,” he explained to Mail Online.
“I don’t give a flying f*** about fame – except that it helps get the message across.”
The 53-year-old has been dubbed Britain’s Sexiest Vet, something he described as totally “mad”.
“My secretary said, ‘You’re not going to believe this, Boss!'”
The latest series of The Supervet airs on Thursdays at 8pm on Channel 4 and Sunday Brunch is broadcast on the same channel on Sundays at 9.30am.
