Ranvir Singh will be temporarily replacing Lorraine Kelly on her ITV programme next week.

The 60 year old presenter, who recently furiously slammed Rita Ora and Kay Burley for breaking lockdown rules, sat opposite the Strictly Come Dancing star on Wednesday morning to discuss her time on the dancing competition before making the announcement.

"Next week, great news, we're going to be swapping chairs! You're going to be here. Just fabulous. Thank you!" Lorraine exclaimed.

Clearly excited to be taking the lead on the Lorraine Kelly show, Ranvir, 43, replied: "No, thank you! I am so excited."

TV presenter Lorraine, who recently demanded government to cancel Christmas to save lives amid the coronavirus pandemic, went on: "It'll be great, you'll be brilliant on this show, you'll be fantastic. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday next week.

Slightly nervous, the political editor for Good Morning Britain said: "I better not mess it up then! Now that the boss is watching," but was met with assurance as Lorraine replied: "As if you would!"

The development comes as Ranvir was recently voted off the popular BBC show Strictly Come Dancing with partner Giovanni Pernice.

Speaking to her GMB co-stars and pals Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on 15 December following the news, she explained that she was simply just friends with the 30 year old.

Nearing the end of the interview, show host Susanna, 50, couldn't allow Ranvir to leave before being asked about whether she and the Italian star will remain close.

She said: "It is weird when you've been so up close and personal with somebody else for such an intense period of time and you've been pursuing the same journey and you've been so close together, physically, emotionally for a very long time… Do you stay friends with Giovanni now?"

TV presenter Ranvir, who has her dance partner on her WhatsApp profile picture, replied: "Well, do you know, I'm gonna see him today because we're doing the group dance for Saturday, so I've actually got to go back into rehearsals for that.

"I mean I think we will, we will stay friends because why not?"

The star then explained the deep bond they have developed over the last few weeks after spending days on end together rehearsing for the BBC show.

She continued: "We experienced something quite deep and quite intense actually and that's a very special thing. So of course we'll stay friends, I adore him actually. He's a sweet little soul."
