Luke Perry’s 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty shares heartbreaking tribute
Luke Perry’s Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late friend and admiitted she’s been left "devastated" by his passing.
The former teen idol died yesterday aged 52 after suffering a massive stroke.
His death sent his friends and famous fans into mourning, and the news shattered his former TV co-star Shannen.
She posted a series of sweet pictures of the pair on Instagram and shared a poignant note in memory of her friend of more than 20 years,
Shannen wrote: "Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me.
"I’m struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts.
"But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives
"Processing this is impossible right now."
Fellow 90210 alum Ian Ziering also paid tribute to his longtime pal yesterday after news of his death broke.
He wrote: "Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last thirty years.
"May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind."
He returned to TV in another high profile role in 2017 when he landed a part in another teen drama, Riverdale.
Perry’s onscreen wife Molly Ringwald was among the first to express her devastation over his loss.
In a post on Twitter , she wrote: "My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family. LukePerry."
Director Joss Whedon, who gave Luke one of his early film roles in the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie, tweeted: "The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted ‘Buffy’ to be.
"I asked if he’d ever seen ‘Near Dark’ and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we’d get along.
"Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn’t be gone."
His rep confirmed the sad news in a statement, revealing that Luke had been surrounded by his family when he slipped away.
"Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke," said his rep.
"He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other close family and friends."
The statement added: "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."
He was married to Rachel Sharp from 1993 until 2003 and they had two children, Jack, 21, and Sophie, 18.
At the time of his death he was engaged to fiance Wendy Madison Bauer.
