Midnight Oil Bass Player Bones Hillman Dead At 62
Australian rock band Midnight Oil‘s bass player Bones Hillman died on Saturday, November 7, at his home in Milwaukee due to cancer. He was 62.
“We’re grieving the loss of our brother Bones Hillman,” reads a statement from Midnight Oil. “He was the bassist with the beautiful voice, the band member with the wicked sense of humour, and our brilliant musical comrade.”
Hillman initially joined the band in 1987 and played on 1990 album, Blue Sky Mining, and follow-up, Earth and Sun and Moon.
Before joining Midnight Oil, Hillman had played with several New Zealand groups, including The Masochists.
“We will deeply miss our dear friend and companion and we send our sincerest sympathies to Denise, who has been a tower of strength for him,” the band added in a statement.
Hillman also played on Midnight Oil’s latest album, The Makarrata Project, which was released last month.
