Gardeners’ World star Monty Don responded to Reverend Richard Coles’ tweet, who claimed he knew all of The Beatles’ hits. The priest wrote on Twitter: “How come I know all the Beatles songs? There is no other band, not even my own, from which I know all the songs.

“Where did I hear them? Why did they stick? Maybe Schubert?”

Agreeing, 65-year-old Monty said he also knew every chord, chord change and rift.

He added: “It is a kind of magic – but their coming together was so unlikely, so random, so extraordinary – like winning the lottery on four consecutive weeks.”

In response to his tweet, one user pointed out that A Kind of Magic was in fact a song by Queen.

They wrote: “Oh Monty, ‘A Kind Of Magic’ is Queen… The best band ever.

“Love that you are a Queen fan.”

But insisting he was far from a fan of the group, he clarified: “As it happens I never liked Queen. Not my thing.”

Monty’s music mishap comes after he announced he had been filming new episodes of Gardeners’ World from his famous garden.

Last year, the horticulturist filmed without a team due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

To make filming work, cables were put into his garden, which connected up to cameras linked to screens in shipping containers.

Last week, he revealed these had now been removed from his drive as he welcomed his team back.

In view of his 234,000 followers, he wrote: “Completed the first programme filmed back with full crew (albeit with social distancing).

“Under pandemic restrictions we did a job – hopefully well enough. But now we are back to doing what we love.”

Many of his fans expressed their excitement for new episodes of the show.

One commented: “You’ve adapted so well. Can we carry on seeing viewers’ gardens please?

“Makes everything you talk about seem a lot more real and accessible.”

A second added: “I’ve actually only seen the programmes which you filmed under pandemic restrictions. You did a fantastic job!

“Looking forward to seeing the programme as filmed with a full crew.“

“Far more than well enough. All of you- the whole BBC team – have been remarkable,” a third added.

Gardeners’ World continues tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.
