I am, of course absolutely gutted

Tom Fletcher

“Instead of heading to the training room to learn a new dance with @amy_dowden, I’m sitting at home opening all the post I’ve been avoiding for 11 weeks.

“What can I say… I am, of course absolutely gutted.”

He confided in his two million Instagram followers that the competition had been so high this year, that he was “amazed and proud to have got as far as I did”.

Tom went on to say that the aspect he would miss the most from Strictly was spending time with dance partner Amy.

“Going out on Musicals Week with a dance that genuinely meant something to me was actually really special,” he stated.

“The truth is though, that as much as I’ll miss the excitement of the live show on a Saturday night, the thing I’ll miss the most is simply hanging out with Amy every day.

“We have had so much fun and after 11 weeks of dancing with her every day it feels very strange to be sitting in a quiet, empty house today!”

Wife Giovanna, on the other hand, will no doubt be thrilled to have her husband back with her, having praised him for bringing dance into their family’s life and encouraging “three little boys to shake their booties with great enthusiasm”.

Amy, Tom and Giovanna have all formed an unexpectedly close bond.

The latter said that watching her husband dance with Amy “put a smile” on her face.

Tom also continued online: “I know that the only reason it’s sad and a little difficult today is because I’ve had such a good time and I’m really thankful for that.”

He added: “I’m so grateful to the WHOLE @bbcstrictly team for inviting me to be part of this special show and partnering me with Amy.

“I can’t wait to see how the next few weeks play out for everyone still dancing. What a series!!!

“For now though, this is what I’ll miss the most, hearing @amy_dowden’s absolutely ridiculous laugh every day.

“I’ll see you tonight for It Takes Two, Amy. There might be tears!”

Amy quickly responded to reciprocate his emotion, writing: “Awh @tomfletcher I’m crying again! The most amazing few weeks which I’m forever grateful for! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! X.”

Meanwhile Instagram fan _lavidalaura_ posted a rolling eyes emoji, arguing: “If the judges were consistent with their scoring you would not have gone.”

A firm favourite with many fans of the show, his elimination has sparked public outrage, with some arguing that he was “under-marked” and had deserved to stay.

The action continues this Saturday evening at 6:35pm on BBC One.
