The Truth About Drew Barrymore And Cameron Diaz’s Friendship

In Hollywood, friendships and marriages come and go, but Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore’s bond has stood the test of three decades. According to PopSugar, the two met in a Los Angeles coffee shop when they were in their teens and later co-starred in both Charlie’s Angels movies with Lucy Liu. Recently, Barrymore opened up about their closeness and what keeps them so committed to one another.

“I always loved living life next to her because neither of us ever got lost in the Hollywood b*******,” she told the outlet. “We just wanted to live our lives. I think we had always remembered what was important and our friendships and our group of girlfriends that are very close-knit.”

Instead of comparing careers and looks, Barrymore and Diaz talk about what’s going on in their lives and their similar values. “When we would sit around and talk, it was always heartbreak, love, life, loss; it was never vanity or career. It was always very important and real things, or the goofiest and stupidest and silliest [things],” the actress added.

“I loved having someone that, like me, wasn’t caught up in it; we have the best time. We’ve seen each other through everything — every good and bad and high and low and life and loss and everything in between.”

Cameron Diaz taught Drew Barrymore how to cook

Meeting at the ages of 14 and 16, the A-list duo grew up together and traveled to some pretty crazy places — even living as roommates. “She’s always been the chef, she’s the best cook ever,” Barrymore said during an Instagram live cooking session with her friend of 30 years. “Some days we’d be living in a hotel and she’d teach me how to make pasta sauce. I know life with you in the kitchen” (via People).

“Our kitchen, the kitchen is where we’ve always been, it’s where I always am. Food is my love language, it’s the main ingredient in everything that I do: love,” Diaz added.

Barrymore also brought Diaz and Lucy Liu on her talk show for her 46th birthday earlier this year, USA TODAY notes. During the video cast, Diaz offered her a heartfelt birthday wish. “Truly one of the great joys of my life is our friendship,” she told her friend. “When I think about you, literally I will cry, because I just think you’re so special and to celebrate you every year, it’s one of my favorite times of the year.”

“Usually we get to actually be together,” Diaz said of her pal’s birthday. “We are not big gift-givers, we’re more about experience, so we always try to go someplace and do something with the girls and be together. Cook, eat, hang and stay up all night and just have the best time.”

Today, Diaz is also godmother to Barrymore’s daughter, Frankie, the outlet reports.
