Bride orders heavily pregnant bridesmaid to stop ‘showing off’ bump in photos
It’s a brave/foolhardy woman who upstages the bride on her big day .
However, if you happen to heavily pregnant AND a bridesmaid, chances are you’re going to stick out regardless of how much you try to be a wallflower.
Not that that’s stopped one bride from venting about a member of her bridal party whom she felt was "showing off" her baby bump in those all-important wedding photos.
Now, the bridesmaid has got the hump at the bride, as SHE feels she was trying to be made look "fat", rather than glowy and pregnant.
Honestly, it’s like a law of physics that every wedding has to come with a dollop of drama.
Ranting on Reddit , the newlywed said: "I got married three weeks ago and one of my bridesmaids is about 7 months pregnant (let’s call her Kate).
"Kate’s belly was easily accommodated into the dress style because it had quite a flowy skirt with a fitted bust."
The problems occurred in the time between the ceremony and the reception. The bride explained they had a photographer booked to take a few hours’ worth of professional photos with just the wedding party."
A few hours seems like a long time, but moving on…
"In one of the first photos I noticed Kate was deliberately holding her belly so it was really obvious in the fabric of her dress (think basically every maternity shoot photo ever taken).
"I asked her to stop holding her hands to show off her belly and to just pose like everyone else. I had to remind her a few more times before we’d finished taking the wedding party photos."
Fast forward to returning from her honeymoon, and the bride started to suspect Kate was not happy with her.
"We usually talk every couple of days," she added.
"I felt she was avoiding me. Today another of my bridesmaids confirmed that Kate is p****d at me because I was ‘trying to make her look fat, not pregnant’ during the photos.
"Now I’m annoyed because I paid a lot of money for a wedding photo shoot, not maternity pics."
A number of women who’d been pregnant themselves came forward to defend Kate.
"As someone who was very recently pregnant, I can tell you I posed with my hand on my bump in every picture I took. I put my hand in my bump when I went out in public.
"Because it sucks being giant, and yes, you want people to know you are pregnant and not just huge. Posing like that is not trying to make it into a maternity shoot, unless she pulled the camera person aside and asked to take pictures of herself with her bump. She was just trying to feel halfway decent about herself in the pictures."
Another mum agreed, adding: "Putting your hand on your bump just shows that it’s a bump instead of letting the bottom of the skirt just flow and risk looking like some giant chiffon covered cow."
It echoes all the unpleasant backlash Meghan Markle got – and still gets – for having the audacity to cradle her bump.
It’s a perfectly normal pose for mums-to-be, not a bid to be the centre of attention.
