‘Fiji Water girl’ now suing Fiji Water for using her likeness without permission
Kelly Steinbach (a.k.a. Kelleth Cuthbert), better known as “Fiji Water Girl” from the Golden Globes ceremony viral moment, is making a name for herself once again.
After photobombing an impressive number of celebrities on the Golden Globes red carpet while holding a tray of Fiji Water, Steinbach was an instant internet sensation with memes popping up throughout the night.WA
Steinbach now claims that Fiji Water is using cardboard cutouts of her without her permission.
People have turned to social media to share their findings of the Fiji Water Girl everywhere from the grocery store…
… to behind John Legend.
Steinbach claims the mock video of her signing her rights away is only a mock, and she never officially signed anything giving the water company consent to use her face.
She says the viral moment provided around $12 million in brand exposure, which she is asking for her share of.
Fiji Water provided ET Canada with a statement on the case, writing, “This lawsuit is frivolous and entirely without merit. After the Golden Globes social media moment, we negotiated a generous agreement with Ms. Cuthbert that she blatantly violated. We are confident that we will prevail in Court. Throughout our history, we have had a sterling reputation working with talent.”
