Ikea's First Small-Format Store in the U.S. Opens Today in Queens, New York

Today, IKEA announced the opening of its new store located in Queens, New York at the Rego Center shopping mall. At 115,000 square feet, this outpost will be the company’s first U.S. store to feature its new smaller-format concept and will be focused on digital tools, room sets, and sustainable products which cater to small-space living needs.

This Queens store is the company’s third New York City location and represents a sort of middle ground between the 346,000 square-foot IKEA Brooklyn and the IKEA Planning Studio in Manhattan. Customers will be able to purchase and take home portable home accessories like lamps, pillows and kitchen tools and arrange home delivery for larger furniture for a flat fee. Appointments will also be available with Ikea sales design consultants to devise plans for specific rooms.

Alongside self-pay and assisted checkout options, IKEA has implemented other efficient health and safety measures as built-in priorities; you should expect to see preventative hygiene practices like temperature checks, regular sanitation and capacity limits.
