Kaley Cuoco Helped Save a Precious Baby Sea Lion on Thanksgiving Day

Turkeys typically hog the spotlight on Thanksgiving, but it was another animal altogether that monopolized Kaley Cuoco’s holiday. On Friday, The Big Bang Theory star shared on social media that part of her day was spent in service of a baby sea lion.

According to Cuoco’s Instagram, she and husband Karl Cook found the precious pup on Thursday and immediately set about trying to save it. “So here’s what I’m grateful for … at my in-laws’ beautiful beach house, Karl and I came across a baby seal who was obviously lost and in pain,” Cuoco explained.

The couple called the Channel Island Marine & Wildlife Institute to see if anyone from the organization could help the injured sea lion pup.

“They promised me a volunteer but I was unsure it would happen since it’s Thanksgiving!” Cuoco elaborated, adding, “A few hours later I noticed a group of volunteers huddled around the seal. They all showed up to help!!”

For Cuoco, the experience aptly became a study in gratitude. “My heart is full and I’m thankful these gracious people left their Thanksgiving plans to help an animal in need. Doesn’t get better than that,” she gushed.

Of course, animal lover that she is, Cuoco followed up with the Channel Island Marine & Wildlife Institute on Friday to check in on her Thanksgiving miracle — whom she has dubbed “Sandy the Sea Lion.”

“He is currently at their Santa Barbara facility getting rehabbed and prepped to be released back into the wild as soon as he’s able,” Cuoco captioned a photo of the (oh-my-gah-he’s-so-cute) sea lion pup.

A passionate advocate for animals, Cuoco frequently features her own pets on social media. In fact, just last week, she announced that her bunny Simon had been set up with his own Instagram account.

The week prior, the actress posted a photo of her rescue dog Norman, encouraging people to consider animal adoption.

On Thanksgiving, when Cuoco expressed in an Instagram post the “overwhelming” amount of things she has to be grateful for, she made sure to include all of her “4 legged children” in the gratitude-tinged caption.

And while she didn’t spell it out, we’re pretty positive Sandy (and his four flippers) is now an honorary member of the fam, too.
