New Balance and Size?’s New "420" Collection Looks Back on the Nostalgic Days of Running Culture
New Balance is continuing to add to its impressive roster of recent collaborations. Now teaming up with U.K.-based retailer size?, the sportswear giant is presenting its new “420” apparel pack.
As a whole, the new collection takes inspiration from one of the original New Balance jacket designs from 1978 with its blue and yellow panel design standing as the key theme throughout the capsule. Seven pieces are included in the collaboration with a range of track pants, jackets, T-shirts, and sneakers all being available. The stand-out piece from the apparel comes in the form of the reimagined “Icon 78 Jacket,” with its design reusing the original logo from ‘78.
For the footwear, a blue and a yellow edition of New Balance’s 420s have been introduced. The appearance looks like it’s been taken straight from the ’80s, offering a streamlined and functional silhouette that’s tipped by size? as the perfect partner for road running. The base of the sneaker is covered in suede while the uppers have been cushioned with soft soles to ensure consistent comfortability when running on the track. Customary branding has been introduced on the tongues while the classic “N” logo is embroidered onto the lateral mid-panels. Rounding off the design, EVA foam cushions have been used on the midsoles along with a durable rubber outsole with enhanced grip.

Also, to mark the occasion, an interactive installation show has been launched at size?’s Carnaby Street store in London, allowing visitors to project campaign imagery onto the walls and look back into the history of the vintage running scene of the ’70s and ’80s.
