As if we didn’t already know that Alison Hammond is an absolute Queen, she had to go and prove it once again in the Sainsbury’s Christmas advert 2022 that’s dropping on TV ahead of December.

Here she is, dressed in gold, sitting on her throne, addressing her subjects… and it’s exactly what she deserves as one of the nation’s most treasured presenters, having co-hosted This Morning alongside Dermot O’Leary since January 2021.

In the new festive advert from the supermarket, which is set to rival competitors such as M&S and John Lewis, viewers are transported to a fairytale land, complete with a grand castle and dragons flying in the sky.

In the throne room, former Big Brother star Alison (who’s actually playing a Countess, but is obviously a Queen in our eyes) is being presented with all sorts of different Christmas dishes, from funky crumpets to a perfectly crisp gammon.

A nervous-looking young chef at the back of line finally takes his turn to offer his dish – a traditional Christmas pudding, that’s already been set alight.

While the sight of a Christmas pud would be a recipe for pure, unadulterated joy for some… for Countess Alison, that’s not the case, as she reveals that it’s not her cup of tea whatsoever.

The entire room gasps in shock at her admission, as she blows out the flame on top of the dessert.

Signalling to her executioner, Alison warns the quaking chef: ‘Bring me something different, or else.’

So, the chef gets to work in the kitchen, struck by inspiration as he begins to come up with a brand new creation – which turns out to actually be an old favourite, but with a twist.

He swirls round a mixture in a bowl, pours ingredients into the concoction, and looks like he’s an absolute whizz in the kitchen.

The fateful moment arrives. At a grand festive feast, the chef is brought to Alison’s side so she can see what he’s made for his second go at impressing her.

As he lifts the lid on his plate, individuals in the room look aghast when they realise he’s served yet another Christmas pudding.

However, it’s not exactly the same as before, as the chef has instead devised a brand new recipe for a caramelised biscuit Christmas pudding instead, complete with brandy, juicy vine fruit and caramelised biscuit flavoured sauce.

Everyone holds their breath as Alison takes a spoonful – and fortunately for the chef, she’s thrilled with his hard work, telling him: ‘That’s a bit of me. Well done babs!’

Whether or not you’re personally a fan of Christmas puddings, one thing’s for sure – this ad will definitely reignite the debate over whether Christmas puds are delicious or detestable.

Are you on Alison’s side, and would rather eat the caramelised biscuit version? Or would you prefer to stick with the original? Have you say!
