Schoolgirl shocked to learn her B&M advent calendar is actually meant for cats
For several days, schoolgirl Alissa Evans dutifully chomped her way through a "weird-tasting" Garfield advent calendar gifted to her by her mum.
But after eating four of the ‘chocolates’ she decided she simply couldn’t stomach any more of the bizarre-looking treats and refused to open the rest of the doors.
Full-time mum Jess Evans initially assumed her nine-year-old daughter was just being fussy, but she soon discovered there was a very good reason why Alissa had given up on the green-tinged goodies in her advent calendar.
After taking a closer look at the calendar, the mum-of-three was horrified to discover that the ‘apple flavoured chocolates’ she thought she’d given her child, were actually made of yoghurt and catnip – and were intended to be consumed by cats.
Jess, who lives in Oswestry, Shropshire, said: "I was in shock and felt like the worst mother ever when I realised I’d bought her a calendar for cats.
"She said they tasted a bit strange, but hadn’t said they were horrible, so I just forgot about it."
The 26-year-old continued: "Alissa hadn’t been eating them for a few days and when I asked why she brought the box over to me. When I turned the calendar over and read it was yoghurt and catnip flavour I couldn’t believe it – and that it had taken 11 days for us to notice.
"I have a degree in English literature and creative writing but still couldn’t read a calendar."
The mum purchased the £1.99 advent calendar from the Oswestry branch of B&M while out shopping with Alissa and her younger sisters Alexis Davies-Evans, three and 11-month-old Aurora Davies-Evans.
She says she got the younger girls Peppa Pig and My Little Pony advent calendars, but wanted to find a different one for her eldest child.
"I was rushing around at the last minute with all three of them Christmas shopping and went into B&M where all the advent calenders were and picked it up without reading it."
She added: "Once [Alissa] got over the shock she found the funny side of it. Thankfully she’s absolutely fine and I’ve checked online that she will be ok.
"I’m going to give the calendar to my friend for her cat."
Jess now plans to find her daughter a new advent calendar and will be taking her fiancé, Sean Davies along with her to ensure she buys a chocolate one this time.
