Sex robot brothel fundraiser falls flat after earning just 1% of £123,000 target
A sex robot brothel that was set to go down in history has flopped after failing to reach its $155,000 fundraising target.
Founder Unicole Unicron had envisaged Eve’s Robot Dreams would become the first consent-focused robot brothel in the world.
However, her campaign for the venture accumulated just $2,659 of the $155,000 (£123,000) goal – equivalent to just 1 per cent.
The brothel was to be aimed at those who "have wild fantasies, want to explore without cheating and are interested in taking their relationship with technology deeper."
And for one punter who coughed up $10,000 for the campaign, there was the opportunity to fly to LA for the opening party and be the first person to take one of the dolls on a "private and public date".
Meanwhile to have sex with one of the £11,000 robots and "get to know her personality" in a private curtained booth would have set customers back $122 (£97).
Unicole, who describes herself as a cult leader, previously insisted that the brothel would be respecting to robot rights and was keen to do so to avoid a "robot rebellion in the future".
She said staff would be paid a living wage and she was keen to work with authorities in LA County to create a safe and hygienic environment.
The robot dolls are based on the Realdoll Harmony X but would have "modifications".
Guests would be offered the opportunity to spend time with their favourite robot in a private room but also be invited to build a relationship with their robo sex friend using a smartphone app.
The campaign also claimed that the brothel might be suitable for those who aren’t comfortable with human company. In the intro video Unicole said it may have "benefits for people with Autism".
Everyone would have been expected to purchase their own "insert" which they must place in their choice of robot orifice. Both vaginal and anal are available, according to the campaign.
Now the fundraising campaign has come to an end, it’s not clear if Unicole will pursue other avenues to raise the cash for the brothel.
