Take a Closer Look at Bottega Veneta's Winter 2023 Collection
Bottega Veneta revels in the detail, and this could not ring any truer for the House’s recent Winter 2023 runway show. Created by Matthieu Blazy and debuted at Milan Fashion Week last weekend, the 81-look collection comprised everything from exquisite tailoring to lounge-worthy dresses that enveloped the body, with a diversity that shows the breadth of Blazy’s creative vision for the ever-evolving and increasingly-cult-approved brand. Now, Bottega Veneta has provided a closer look at not just specific items, but materials and techniques that are quintessential of the House.
Leather is a Bottega Veneta staple — it’s become the signifier of what the House does best, a visual identifier that allows for its accessories and clothing to exist sans-branded. For Winter 2023, Blazy doubles down on this with a new array of Intrecciato and Intreccio-woven footwear and bags, delivering ink-stained neon yellow bucket bags not too dissimilar to his Kalimero style, as well as briefcases, under-arm clutches, totes, and even a purse elongated into a baguette shape.
However, it was the shoes that really got the Internet talking this season. Notably, Bottega Veneta uses its intricate woven leather process to craft knitted leather sock-slippers, coming in various heights and colorways such as red or cream with a metal fastener on the side. Each pair is lined with a flat leather sole, looking just like a set of socks or slippers fit for the home — only, these will undoubtedly cost thousands and be destined for the Fashion Week showgoers’ street style shots.
Elsewhere, loafers sported chunky sole units akin to Bottega Veneta’s Tire Chelsea Boot, slip-ons were decked in shiny black leather, and heels ranged from knee and thigh-highs to little pumps complete with pointed toes. Riding boots that elevated the aforementioned and highly-popular Tire Boot, gold flake jelly pumps, and square-toed formal shoes rounded out the accessories on foot.
