Wait, Aidan is back for the Sex And The City reboot… but not Big?

The rebooted Sex And The City, which will star just three of the HBO show’s original cast members, will be called And Just Like That…

Updated on 16 April: Big (Chris Noth) might not be returning for the upcoming Sex And The City reboot, but it seems Aidan (John Corbett) will be!

That’s right: Corbett has signed on to reunite with Sarah Jessica Parker in HBO’s And Just Like That.

“I’m going to do the show,” he told the New York Post, admitting the gig is “very exciting” for him.

John Corbett has lavished praise on the Sex And The City cast.

“I think I might be in quite a few [of the 10 episodes],” Corbett added.

“I like all those people, they’ve been very nice to me.”

Of course, this writer couldn’t help but wonder exactly what role Carrie’s ex-fiancé (whom she shared a kiss with in the second SATC movie, no less) will be playing in the TV reboot. Particularly as producers are seemingly killing off her on-screen husband, Big.

As reported on 19 February: according to multiple reports, Carrie Bradshaw’s husband will not be appearing in the new SATC series.

While these are reports remain unconfirmed by HBO (for now), it’s worth noting that Noth has long been open about his dislike for the way both SATC movies ended.

Indeed, in an interview for Origins with James Andrew Miller, a podcast about epic moments in history, Noth said: “I really hate corny stuff and it could be because I’m a little bit of a cynic. Like, the whole thing at the end of the movie in the shoe closet… [I] hated it.’”

He added that the diamond ring finale at the end of SATC 2, similarly, had no sense of “realism.”

But, with Big such a…. well, such a big part of the original Sex And The City story, how could they ever get rid of him?

Well, Sarah Jessica Parker recently let slip that the “[coronavirus pandemic will] obviously be part of the storyline, because that’s the city [these characters] live in.”

And, dropping what seems like an almighty hint about the fate of some of the show’s absent characters, SJP added: “And how has [Covid-19] changed relationships once friends disappear?

“I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all.”

Why Sex and the City’s Aidan is the ultimate example of toxic masculinity

Perhaps they’ve been separated by social distancing restrictions. Perhaps lockdown has driven them to break up.

Or perhaps, as some people have darkly begun suggesting on social media, Big has (gulp) been killed off. And it’s not such a stretch; after all, rumours have long swirled that a major SATC  storyline could revolve around the death of Mr. Big, and how Carrie will deal with the fall out of his sudden demise.

With this terrible thought burning in our minds, we couldn’t help but wonder: what do we need know about HBO’s And Just Like That.

Let’s talk this through.

What’s the plot of And Just Like That?

As reported on 11 January: The revival will follow Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as “they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s,” according to an HBO Max news release.

I couldn’t help but wonder … where are they now?

Is there a trailer for And Just Like That?

The show doesn’t have a trailer just yet, but Sarah Jessica Parker announced the new series via a teaser video of iconic New York City locations and sounds to Instagram on Sunday 10 January.

“I couldn’t help but wonder … where are they now?” she captioned it.

Who stars in the cast of And Just Like That?

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will be reprising their roles from the original Sex And The City series.

What, no Samantha?

Noticeably missing from the production is Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha in the series that ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004.

This should come as little surprise to fans of the show, though, as Cattrall vowed in July 2019 that she would “never” appear in another SATC movie or series.

“Never,” she said. “It’s a no from me.”
