How Kate Middleton carries her bag in her left hand so she is free shake hands with royal fans

KATE Middleton is rarely seen without a trusty handbag or cute clutch when it comes to her public engagements.

And eagle-eyed royal fans may have spotted that the Duchess of Cambridgecarries it in her left hand, despite being right handed.

The reason for this is all down to royal etiquette according to expert Myka Meier, who pointed out that this was also a trick used by her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

Sharing a picture of the Princess of Wales on Instagram, Myka explained: “Royal Etiquette Hack: When entering a room or event, handbags or briefcases are held in the LEFT hand so that your right hand stays open to meet, greet and shake hands!

“Prince Charles does this too!”

Meghan Markle has also been seen following this rule, and like Kate she too is right handed.

When it comes to packing her bag, the Duchess of Cambridge follows a very minimalist approach.

Kate carries just FOUR things in her handbag, according to author Marcia Moody, who penned Kate: A Biography.

The first is a compact mirror, reports Mamamia – presumably for checking her make-up is on point and she doesn't have any food in her teeth.

Kate also carries a trusty lip balm as well as a sheet of blotting paper – usually used to remove excess oil or sweat from the face.

The final item is a handkerchief. That's right, no phone, no purse, nothing.

Meanwhile the Queen adopts a similarly minimal approach according to royal biographerSally Bedell Smith.

Sally, author of Elizabeth the Queen: The Woman Behind The Throne, said Her Majesty, 93, keeps her reading glasses, mint lozenges and a fountain pen in her famous Launer-branded bags.

She is said to carry a "precisely folded" £5 or £10 to be placed in the church donation on Sundays, and it is rumoured one of her butler's even irons the note into a little square.

In other royal news, Kate Middleton and Prince William will "visit Australia to meet victims of the devastating bushfires."

And we told you how Katherine Jenkins was so "nervous" she could "hardly speak" at lunch with the Queen.

We also revealed how Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could have been paid £770,000 for JP Morgan speech about therapy.
