I’m 21 & live in an old people's home, some say I’m weird but I love it, the decor’s great & there’s always stuff to eat

A 21-YEAR-OLD woman who lives in an old people's home has opened up about the benefits of such a unique living situation.

She took to TikTok to explain that she'd been given the option to rent an apartment in the retirement complex due to a lack of rental housing in the town she works in.

And in a video revealing "things that make sense when you like in an old folks home", she cited the "the ladies doing puzzles, the decor, the constant fresh baked goods in the atrium, people casually leaving their doors to their apartment open and leftover food from meals on wheels left at my door".

She captioned the clip: "Yes, I am 21 and signed a lease in a senior apartment complex."

Further explaining how she ended up living in the apartment, she said in another video: "Because of the nature of my job, I need to be at work.

"And I travel a lot but it was impossible to find housing. So this town has a lot of people who come here for that reason, and they had no housing other than low income.

"So they started allowing people to live in their old folks home because it was one of their only rental units that would have openings.

"There’s a tech school in town and there’s a handful of about 3 or 4 people my age that live here, but 90% of the people that live here are still old folks because they live here since before the city bought it and allowed other people to live here.

AGING GRACEFULLY

People can't believe I'm 90, I look much younger & here's my simple trick

"It’s still very much an old people’s home – I feel like I’m in Golden Girls."

She was also inundated with requests from people to do a video tour of her apartment, to which she happily obliged.

"When you walk in you just walk straight into my kitchen… It does look kind of old fashion and outdated but I don’t care – I kind of like it," she said.

Showing off her living room, she explained that she's "into mid century vibes, like 70s vibes" and gets most of her furniture and soft furnishings from estate sales or on Facebook Marketplace.

She added that she doesn't have a television in the living room, just a record player, and only has a screen in the bedroom.

She concluded the tour by showing off her "very spacious" bedroom and the bathroom, which was equipped with numerous metal support bars – obviously installed to help older people in their apartments.

In a comment on the apartment tour video, one person wrote: "this looks comforting. it reminds me of how my grandmother used to decorate.

"I miss her dearly. thank you for sharing."

And the original poster replied: "That’s why i decorate like this too – most of my glassware is hers."
