I’m a thrifty mum and gave my dull garden furniture a new lease of life with some bargain paint – it saved me £1.5k | The Sun

A THRIFTY mum shared how she saved £1.5k but deciding to revamp her dull garden furniture herself using just some bargain paint.

Rather than shell out a small fortune on new outdoor seating, Leanne Oliver, 36, from Bolton, got to work transforming the drab furniture herself.

Leanne's budget was incredibly tight as she had been scammed into purchasing the dodgy garden set online in the first place.

Instead of replacing it for new furniture, she painted the old lot using Frenchic paint.

The set Leanne wanted would have set her back £1.6k but instead she spent just £40 on the paint.

Speaking to money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK, Leanne said: "I got scammed buying new furniture online so I was on a tight budget.

"Knowing I had nothing to lose, I went ahead and used two tins of Frenchic Al Fresco in Swanky Pants.

"I cleaned it up first and pressed the paint into the crevices with the brush.

“The furniture was scrubbed by me and my six-year-old son with fairy liquid.

"He helped paint it with me.

"We basically threw the paint on with no technique really apart from pushing it into the holes between the wicker.

"I put it in my friend's garden for a few weeks while we had work done in the garden which gave it a good time to cure.

"It’s going great and is being used daily by our family of five and pets, with no chips yet.

"Everyone has commented on how great it looks.

“Originally I was looking at buying a new set for £1,599.99 but this only cost me £40: £20 for each tin of paint.

“I feel very accomplished – it definitely looks more modern than the dark brown!”

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: “Now that the sun is out and summer is definitely here, many of us are looking at our garden furniture in despair and wondering where the money is going to come from to replace broken or sad-looking chairs and tables.
