Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter Emily shares candid snaps taken just TWO seconds apart to show the ‘ugly and depressing’ side of IBS

The 24-year-old posted images of herself trying to disguise her IBS bloat by "breathing in" and another of her "swollen" stomach after "breathing out".

In out in out shake it all aboutttt ??? hello welcome to the realities of IBS, of living with confusing chronic ailments, of a very ugly and depressing illness that I’m not okay with and I’m not inherently positive about but that I refuse to stop talking about and sharing photos of because it’s NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF. Here are two photos of my body taken two seconds apart. Breathing in, breathing out. Who am I kidding, breathing in was exhausting ? the breathing out is my reality right now as I wait for my next doctor’s appointment, and whilst it’s hardly leaving me feeling sexy and fabulous, (on the contrary I feel pretty gross and tired ALL THE TIME), this is my body and even in it’s current, swollen, frankly pretty alarming state, it’s still deserving of allll my love ? it isn’t easy to love your body. It should be, but it isn’t. Society has not made it easy. IBS sure as hell doesn’t make it easy. But we must never stop trying ? #ibs #ibsawareness #ibswarrior #chronicillness #loveyourself #selflove #selfconfidence #lovemyself #bodyconfidence

Being honest and open with her 12,000 followers, Emily wrote: "Welcome to the realities of IBS, of living with confusing chronic ailments, of a very ugly and depressing illness that I'm not okay with and I'm not inherently positive about but that I refuse to stop talking about because it's NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF."

Taken just "two seconds apart", Emily's honest shots depict just how much this chronic condition plays havoc on her body day-to-day.

Affecting one in four people in the UK, Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be an agonising condition, causing frequent tummy discomfort, bloating, constipation as well as bouts of diarrhoea.

The blogger – whose father is former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson –  added: "This is my body in it's current, swollen and frankly pretty alarming state, it's still deserving of allll my love.

What are the symptoms of IBS?

  • stomach pain and cramping, which may be relieved by having a poo
  • a change in your bowel habits – such as diarrhoea, constipation, or sometimes both
  • bloating and swelling of your stomach
  • excessive wind
  • occasionally experiencing an urgent need to go to the toilet
  • a feeling that you have not fully emptied your bowels after going to the toilet
  • passing mucus from your bottom

As she waits on her next doctor's appointment, Emily concluded: "It isn't easy to love your body. It should be, but it isn't.

"Society has not made it easy. IBS sure as hell doesn't make it easy. But we must never stop trying."

Unsurprisingly, Emily's extremely candid post struck a chord with fans and fellow IBS sufferers.

Flooding the comments with praise, one fan wrote: "From a fellow IBS sufferer, I feel your pain (and bloat!).

"I can also attest to the depressing side of IBS – a side which I don't think many actually fully appreciate or understand! So sorry you're going through a crap time with it all."

Another sufferer added: "I think a lot of people think it's minor/no big deal but, as you know, it's completely debilitating when the flare ups are bad to the extent it can be almost impossible to function in any normal way.

"Good on you for posting something about it"

Having suffered with the chronic condition since the age of 11, Emily has previously said: "I spent years and years and years being so angry about IBS and so frustrated by it."

Documenting her IBS experience on her blog Pretty Normal Me, Emily wrote in February: "When my stomach bloated and I couldn't get my clothes on, when I was feeling farty and embarrassed I wanted the ground to swallow me up."
