Princess Eugenie ‘upset’ after Meghan Markle ‘didn’t attend’ her evening wedding reception, reports claim
Although Prince Harry swung by for a drink, the bride was left unhappy that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn't appear as a couple, a royal source told The Telegraph.
The reason for Meghan Markle missing the event – and Prince Harry’s brief stay at the reception – is unknown but it came just before they announced their pregnancy and started their royal tour.
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle missed the evening celebrations, Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to have "made a night of" the happy occasion.
It was reported by Bazaar before the October wedding that Meghan was to skip the evening reception.
A source said: “They'll unfortunately miss part of the after-party to allow ample travel preparation time for their flight to Australia for their upcoming tour.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they are having a baby as they landed in Australia on October 15 for their first royal tour as husband and wife.
While a due date has not yet been confirmed, speculation has it around late March or early April.
Princess Eugenie tied the knot on October 12 at Windsor Castle, and hosted a lunchtime reception immediately after the wedding.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have attended this part of the nuptials, and enjoyed finger foods, red velvet wedding cake, and speeches from the groom and father of the bride.
The evening bash was a celeb-heavy affair and was organised by wedding planner Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, the man behind David and Victoria Beckham's big day in 1999.
The event involved a sit-down meal at the Royal Lodge, where Princess Eugenie grew up and Prince Andrew and mum Sarah Ferguson still live, despite being divorced for 22 years.
Kensington Palace was contacted but declined to comment.
The couple are said to be moving home to Frogmore Cottage in the grounds of Windsor Castle in Berkshire.
