The make-up minis you need to stay flawless all night long

There’s always one friend you can count on to carry make-up with them on a night out. In my friendship group, that’s me.

But handbag space is at a premium, so to keep up my reputation and still manage to get the actual essentials in my clutch (keys, phone, purse, mask…) I’ve curated a special collection of mini make-up products that are reserved purely for a big night out.

First things first, when your bag is small, it is crucial to prioritise. Nobody needs to apply eyeliner after a few drinks, and the same goes for primer. You’re not going to require topping up throughout the night.

Instead, stick to things that layer easily and can be applied on to sweaty skin (if there’s not plenty of dancing involved, something’s wrong).

  • Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer, £15 – buy here

Concealer is a must for me – my face is red at the best of times, never mind once the prosecco heat hits it, so I need something with full coverage. I don’t leave the house without Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer, £15, and the full size is a permanent resident in my make-up bag.

  • Bite Beauty Mini Upswing Full Volume Mascara, £13 – buy here

My lashes don’t hold a curl, so I like to reapply mascara to perk them up. Bite Beauty Mini Upswing Full Volume Mascara, £13, layers without getting clumpy and the mini wand means you can get closer to your lash line, too.

  • Mac Lipglass Mini in Clear, £12.50 – buy here

It’s much easier to get a swipe of lipgloss right than to risk reapplying a bold colour once you’re out. I love Mac Lipglass Mini in Clear, £12.50, as the squeezy tube is perfect for sharing – without swapping germs.

  • By Terry Hyaluronic Pressed Hydra-Powder Travel Size, £16 – buy here

Setting powder is an essential to help make-up stay put. By Terry Hyaluronic Pressed Hydra-Powder Travel Size, £16, contains hyaluronic acid to control shine without drying out skin. Plus, it’s a pressed powder so it won’t spill in your bag.

  • Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, £15 – buy here

If your make-up is prone to settling into fine lines or looking dry, use Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, £15, instead to add some moisture back into your face and refresh your make-up.

  • Benefit Gimme Brow+ Volumising Eyebrow Gel Mini, £12.50 – buy here

I have super-stubborn brow hairs, so I keep Benefit Gimme Brow+ Volumising Eyebrow Gel Mini, £12.50, on hand to groom them back into place – it sounds like a small thing, but it makes all the difference.

  • Nars Mini Bronzing Powder in Laguna, £17 – buy here

The same goes for Nars Mini Bronzing Powder in Laguna, £17 – the golden hue helps disguise my naturally flushed complexion.

  • Ouai North Bondi Eau De Parfum Travel Size, £16 – buy here

Finally, it’s not make-up, but a spritz of perfume instantly makes you feel put together, no matter how long you’ve been out. I’m currently loving Ouai North Bondi Eau De Parfum Travel Size, £16 for 10ml. Let’s get the party started!

THE BEAUTY PANEL

I have really small eyes, and I think make-up makes them look even smaller. What can I do? Charlotte, Exeter

There are a few tricks to help define your eyes with minimal effort. First, use eyelash curlers to open up your eyes, and then apply a thin layer of brown or black mascara – such as Clinique Lash Power, £21, which comes in both shades – to the top lashes only. If you want slightly more definition without wearing eyeshadow, take a thin pencil and apply it really close to the lash line, making sure to colour between the lashes – my Ruby Hammer Precision Eyeliner Pencil, £18, is perfect for this. Ruby Hammer @rubyhammer
