These fancy ‘cakes’ are actually high-heel shoes
Talk about a cakewalk.
Chris Campbell is bridging the gap between food porn and fashion with hand-made high heels modeled after different kinds of pastries. The Florida-based designer has been creating cake-themed couture for six years, but his dessert-evoking designs have only recently started to take off thanks to social media.
“I love cake and waffles so much that I put them on shoes,” Campbell tells Caters News Service.
The 34-year-old started Shoe Bakery in Orlando in 2013 and, in accordance with its name, the footwear depot features hundreds of pairs of immaculately sculpted sweet-themed shoes and bags adorned with everything from faux buttercream to molded flowers and cherries. To complete the effect, the dessert-loving designer even uses a piping bag and other bona fide baking tools to apply the imitation garnishes.
Campbell’s laser-focused attention to detail was honed in college, where he used to create realistic sneakers for students that mimicked various textures such as wood and even skin. “I always enjoyed the challenge of making things seem like something they weren’t,” muses the footwear wizard.
