What is the greatest Christmas song of all time? From Last Christmas to The Fairytale Of New York

From Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody to Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas there are plenty of  yuletide melodies to choose from – so is yours the top choice for Britain?

What is the best Christmas song?

In 2017 The eighties classic Fairytale of New York was been named the nation’s favourite festive song – even beating Mariah Carey to the top.

The 1987 hit by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl is a huge hit at Christmas and it’s for a pretty strange reason.

Apparently lovers of the song feel it is an accurate reflection of a British Christmas, complete with family arguments over the turkey.

The tune beat Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas and Wham’s Last Christmas in several polls over the past few years to be voted the nation’s favourite.

However the three songs still vary and are a consistent subject of debate at every household over the festive period.

And experts say we like it because it avoids the fluffy image other songs have of a perfect Christmas.

So do you relate to this choice of festive song?
