Where does Santa live and is his name Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle or St Nicholas?

For most youngsters (and quite a few adults), Father Christmas is the main symbol of the festive season, with children across the globe expecting a visit from jolly old Saint Nick on Christmas Eve.

Is it Santa Claus, Father Christmas, St Nicholas or Kris Kringle?

It is all of them! Can't a bloke have a nickname?!

It's just that he is known by different names depending on where in the world you are.

Santa Claus – The popular name for Father Christmas comes from the Dutch "Sinter Klaas". This is the name they gave their favourite saint – also St. Nicholas.

St Nicholas – We are, of course, talking about the aforementioned St Nick here.

Kris Kringle – This is an Americanised version of the Austrian Christkind, meaning Christ-child. It was famed by the movie Miracle on 34th Street.

Is Father Christmas real?

Of course he is!

How can I track Father Christmas?

Usually, NORAD focuses on defending US airspace but every December it does a very important job – helping children track Father Christmas’ journey from the North Pole.

From December 1, you have been able to use the NORAD website to "track" Santa’s festive journey.

Google also offer a Santa tracking service – which becomes available on December 24.
