Get booking! Three London restaurants crowned among best 50 in the world
Fancy treating yourself to a fancy meal? You won’t have to travel far for it, because three of the world’s best restaurants are in London.
Kol, a British-Mexican fusion restaurant in Marylebone, came out as the highest ranking UK restaurant in the annual World’s Best 50 Restaurants awards, joining the list at number 23.
The Michelin star joint was launched in 2020 by Mexican chef Santiago Lastra anduses predominately British ingredients, with only three ‘true Mexican essential’ imported: corn for the tortillas, chocolate and native chillies.
If that doesn’t tickle your tastebuds, Ikoyi, located on London’s The Strand, also made the top 50 list, coming in at number 35.
The restaurant’s broad offering focuses on spice, with influences from sub-Saharan West Africa. Launched by chef Jeremy Chan and restaurateur Iré Hassan-Odukale in 2017, its smoked jollof rice remains the signature dish, but the ‘mussel custard’ has caught out eye.

Completing the top three UK restaurants is The Clove Club, located in Shoreditch Town Hall. Expect a ‘modern British’ menu from Scottish chef (and former fish monger) Isaac McHale.
The menu changes frequently, but raw Orkney scallop with hazelnut, clementine and truffle; veal sweetbread baked in hay and served with aromatic brown butter; and Braeburn apple tarte tatin were noted by the judges. Sounds delicious!
The list may be a little controversial, as only London restaurants made the cut from the UK, despite the fact that Bristol has previously been named one of the best foodie cities on the planet. Not to mention other UK cities including Birmingham, Glasgow and Norwich having vibrant food scenes.
