Greggs confirms there are no plans for a vegan festive bake just yet
It’s been almost a year since Greggs unveiled their Vegan Steak Bake, and almost two years since they launched the Vegan Sausage Roll. How time flies when you’re having fun.
As we come into the festive season, our minds are on one particular item from the British bakery’s menu: The Festive Bake.
Each November we await its return, with its creamy turkey and stuffing filling, all topped off with a crunchy crumb on the pastry.
Sadly for vegans, though, there’s no alternative to the Christmas savoury. At least not yet.
We asked Greggs for the lowdown on whether they’re planning something similar, and got the answer: Not yet.
A spokesperson for Greggs told Metro.co.uk: ‘We’re always listening to what Greggs fans want. We’ve no plans just yet for Christmas 2021, but if our customers are good next year and make it onto the “nice” list, who knows what could happen!’
They listened when we begged for a Vegan Sausage Roll (including when PETA started a petition), and the sales proved that there was a massive market for them.
People then queued in the dark and cold for the launch of the Vegan Steak Bake, again showing the fierce appetite for plant-based snacks.
Although the much-loved bakery chain are characteristically tight-lipped about new additions to the menu until they officially launch, we do see a pattern forming here.
If you lot kick up enough fuss and prove that you’d love a Vegan Festive Bake, the Greggs gods would once again be forced to listen… and the turkeys would be safe from our voracious need for seasonal bakes.
