How to make an easy apple cake in just five steps

We’ve come a long way since the banana bread filled days of lockdown one.

If you’re still keen to turn your leftover fruit into a delicious treat, we bring you this very easy upside-down apple cake from Aldi.

It looks pretty impressive with the fruit on the bottom but it’s actually very simple.

You just need to mix together a coating for the chopped fruit, layer it in and then mix together the rest of the ingredients, add on top of the apples and bake.

The prep takes just 15 minutes and then you need to bake it for 30-40, meaning you can have it all finished in under an hour.

This recipe serves six people and you probably have a lot of the ingredients at home but Aldi estimates it costs around 92p per portion if you need to buy everything.

Ingredients

  • Two Apples
  • 60g Unsalted Butter
  • 70g Brown Sugar
  • ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 Medium Eggs
  • 110g Unsalted Butter
  • 110g Self Raising Flour
  • 110g Caster Sugar
  • ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Milk
  • 7″ Cake Tin
