How to make easy meringue ghosts for Halloween with just five ingredients

If you’re looking for some easy Halloween treats to whip up this half-term, this recipe is perfect.

You need just six ingredients and it takes only six steps. The mix itself can be made in under half an hour but they do take a while to cook and cool.

It’s basically just a classic meringue with black flood colouring to draw on the eyes and the mouth.

If you don’t have a piping bag, you can pile spoonfuls of the mixture into a ghost shape instead.


  • 4 large egg whites
  • 225g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp white wine vinegar
  • Black food colouring
