Tesco recalls vegetable dumplings also sold in Morrisons – ‘do not eat’

Product recalls are issued when there is a problem with the health and safety of the item. With edible products, this means that the food could be harmful or cause damage to some people if eaten.
Tesco has this week issued a food recall after grocery company itsu announced that one of its products was unsafe to eat.
A British chain of East-Asian inspired food, itsu has shops and restaurants across the UK, as well as a grocery company that sells products in British supermarkets.
The product affected is sold in both Tesco and Morrisons.
Although Morrisons has not yet issued a product recall, it is still best not to eat the item if bought from there in recent weeks.
The recalled product is itsu’s vegetable fusion gyoza, which comes in a 300g pack size and has a best before date of April 11, 2022.
Twenty dumplings are included in the pack and a dipping sauce is also included.
The vegetable fusion gyoza is being withdrawn from Tesco shelves because the dumplings may contain seafood gyoza.
This means that they may consist of crustaceans, molluscs, and fish, as well as egg, which are not stated on the packaging.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) often publishes food recalls on its website, and it has advised people not to eat the itsu vegetable fusion gyoza.
It said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to crustaceans, and/or fish, and/or molluscs and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg do not eat it.
“Instead, for a full refund, send a picture of the best before date on the packaging to [email protected] or write to itsu (grocery), 40 Broadway, Westminster London SW1H 0BU, then dispose of the product at home.”
The FSA also outlined what action the company is currently undertaking to sort this problem.
“Itsu (grocery) is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall,” the FSA confirmed.
“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
In its notice to customers, itsu said “please do not consume this product”.
After noting its contact details so that customers can take a photo of the product and send it to them, the grocery company added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation.”
Additionally, if shoppers bought the product from Tesco, the supermarket recommended taking it back to a local store in exchange for a refund.
The food retailer said: “If you have an allergy or intolerance to crustaceans, molluscs, fish, or egg, or are vegetarian or vegan, do not eat the affected product.
“Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given.”
Tesco added: “No receipt is required.”
