Woman reveals easy hack to speed up weeknight cooking
After a long day at work, spending hours making dinner is the last thing most of us want to do.
But one cook has revealed her hack to reduce the prep time.
The woman, named Kirsty, takes 15 minutes at the weekend when things are a bit more relaxed and cuts all the veg she needs for the week.
She then portions them into ziplock bags, according to the meals she has planned.
It means when it comes to cooking dinner, she can just throw them into the pan, straight from the freezer.
Posting on Facebook, she explained: ‘Meal prep Sunday.
’15 minutes in the kitchen chopping up veggies. Into zip-lock bags and into the freezer.
‘Quick defrost and into the frying pan. Convenient for those weekday meals!’
Once she’s finished chopping, she can quickly clean up all the scraps in one go and there’s less washing up to think about throughout the week.
In her example, she chopped up vegetables for recipes she labelled as chicken laksa, stir fry, carbonara, chow mein and spaghetti.
It also reduces waste and cuts costs as stops veg going off before you notice.
Some asked about freezing vegetables without steaming or blanching them but Kirsty said it works for her.
She added: ‘They can be a little soggy but I don’t mind my veggies soft. I can’t eat them crunchy.’
Others were impressed by the idea and said they would give it a go themselves.
One said: ‘You are my spirit animal – thank you for sharing.’
Another added: ‘Wow, this is an awesome idea! Especially when it gets to the end of the week and you have to rush to use the veggies before they start going bad!’
