Gardening expert Carol Klein will be showcasing her horticultural skills and offering tips and advice to fellow gardeners from her own cottage garden in Devon. Glebe Cottage, which is located in North Devon, is every gardener’s dream – full to the brim with stunning flowers, a vegetable garden and a plethora of trees. However, Carol’s garden didn’t always look so luscious.
Earlier this year, Carol shared on ITV’s This Morning how she managed to transform her garden over a 40-year period to get it to its current standard today.
When she first moved to the cottage, the garden was filled with old cars and rubbish.
She first moved to Glebe Cottage in 1978 from London and landed a teaching job in the area.
Carol said after living in the city, “all she wanted” was a garden.
She said when they found Glebe Cottage it was simply “perfect”.
Photos of the original garden reveal an overgrown-looking space with lots of long grass and rubble.
Carol said when her and her husband first moved into the property, she wouldn’t class the space as a garden.
She said: “There wasn’t a garden! There were lots and lots of old cars, an old shed – and I had to get in there.
“We took all the old cars out apart from one of them which was a Morris Minor.

“The JCB couldn’t pull it out so we knocked it down and we planted a tree on top of it.
“The tree is doing beautifully well.”
In more recent snaps from Glebe Cottage on Carol’s Instagram page, the garden looks vibrant and spring-ready.
She said she had been planting a cut-flower garden and adding plants.
Carol said the “plant of the moment” was a geranium phaeum.
The new series of the show will see Carol dividing up snowdrops and primroses so you can have even more of them in your garden.
She said in a clip of the show on her Instagram: “You should have been here a few weeks ago.
“The ground everywhere was covered in this carpet of white.
“You’ve got snowdrops here, there and everywhere. But I wanted more.
“So what I’m going to do is lift some of these, divide them, replant them and increase them. Every year we do this.”
She will also show viewers how to pollinate hellebores to make your own varieties.
The gardening expert will also be taking viewers into her vegetable garden where she will be showing you how to put potatoes in the ground.
In the greenhouse, she will show you how to collect seed from your own plants to sow “cut-and-come-again salads and tasty herbs”.
Gardening with Carol Klein starts 7pm, Thursday 29th April on Channel 5
