Brit told she’d ‘amount to nothing’ cashes in as Marilyn Monroe lookalike in LA
A British woman who was told she “wouldn’t amount to anything” is now raking in a fortune in Hollywood.
Jasmine Chiswell has always had a passion for movies and vintage glamour.
And the 27-year-old, who was born near Glasgow, bears an uncanny resemblance to Marilyn Monroe.
So after flunking her exams at school, it was a natural fit for her to go into acting herself.
In a Q&A, she revealed: “I wanted to study medicine and I was on the right track to doing that.
“But I screwed up all my exams because my parents were splitting up and it was so crazy at the time. School wasn’t on my mind so I took a year out.”
Jasmine continued: “At that point I needed to make some money so my mum’s friend managed to get me some TV work.
“I was extras and then I was featured. I did some acting on several different BBC kids shows, which was a lot of fun.”
Taking the year out solidified Jasmine’s love of the film and TV industry.
She decided to go to college to study media – and instantly made a good impression thanks to her brains and Hollywood looks.
The Marilyn lookalike was offered a place at the New York Film Academy Institute to get a masters degree.
So she packed up life in the Lanarkshire countryside to chase the American dream.
Jasmine’s career took off when she moved to Los Angeles.
She started dressing in a vintage style in 2017 and was often stopped by Marilyn fans in the street.
Her glamorous looks also helped her to make a name for herself on social media.
She boasts a whopping 9.2 million followers on TikTok and 614,000 on Instagram.
And her large fanbase has made her career as an influencer a very lucrative one.
Jasmine has even been able to buy the £2million Runyon Canyon mansion Marilyn used to live in.
The pad was set to be demolished until the social media star purchased it.
She now resides there with her music producer husband Maverick McNeilly, 32.
The pair are convinced the ghost of the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes star walks the halls of the four-bedroom property.
But they’re not scared by the ghostly noises they hear as they think Marilyn would be pleased they stopped her mansion from being torn down.
It’s safe to say Jasmine’s life looks a lot different to it used to in Britain.
After joining TikTok in February last year and going viral with her vintage style videos, she’s been able to make the job full time.
She said: “It went crazy, which I can’t believe. My first video went viral…
“Social media has become my main job now.”
Jasmine hopes to do more film work in the future.
But for now, she’s delighted with the thriving social media career she has at the moment.
