A tribute to Diana? Eagle-eyed royal fans spot that Kate’s navy polka dot dress bears a striking resemblance to one worn by the late Princess of Wales in 1985

  • New family portraits taken to mark Charles’ 70th birthday have been released 
  • Duchess of Cambridge, 36, wore £1,750 polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich 
  • Diana wore similar navy midi dress  while photographed at Kensington Palace 

Kate appears to have paid tribute to Diana with her polka dot dress in official portraits – which looks similar to a frock worn by the late Princess of Wales.

Eagle-eyed royal fans have spotted the striking resemblance between the Duchess of Cambridge’s Alessandra Rich midi dress and a navy spotted dress worn by Diana in 1985. 

Kate, 36, wore her £1,750 polka dot dress for official portraits taken for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday in the gardens of Clarence House, which includes a newly-released snap.

Meanwhile, Diana, who was 24 at the time, wore a similar navy midi dress featuring large white collars and a bow at the front, while photographed at home at Kensington Palace more than two decades ago.

Fans quickly pointed out the similarities between the two dresses, with one commenting: ‘I knew that dress look familiar!’  

New photographs were released on Sunday, including one showing Kate laughing as baby Louis grabbed grandfather Prince Charles’ face.

Another image shows Charles chuckling with delight as he cuddled six-month-old Louis in September, ahead of his 70th birthday last week.

When two initial portraits were released on Wednesday, royal watchers previously drew comparisons between baby Louis’ ivory blue La Coqueta Carlina Boy Ceremony Set and a romper suit previously worn by Prince William.

Prince Louis wore an ivory blue La Coqueta Carlina Boy Ceremony costing £72, similar to one worn by William in a snap taken of him and Princess Diana in 1983 (above)

The tot’s outfit appeared to pay homage to his father William’s outfit in a snap of him and Princess Diana taken in 1983, where he was dressed in a blue and white smocked romper suit.

Meanwhile, Kate’s Alessanda Rich dress may have also been inspired by a friend of sister-in-law Meghan – as she picked up the same dress her former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer wore to the royal wedding.

The same dress was the same number was later spotted on guests, including Sarah Jessica Parker, at some of the summer’s most glamorous events.

Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton  also wore a custom baby blue version of the flattering crêpe de chine dress for nephew Prince Louis’ christening in July. 

Kate’s Alessandra Rich frock made headlines when Suits star Abigail Spencer, 37, donned it for the royal wedding at Windsor Castle in May (above). The same number was later spotted on guests at the summer’s most glamorous events
