Law student enters Miss Hooters pageant to show waitresses have brains & beauty
A Hooters waitress is competing to be the face of the brand – and she's shared what working at the notorious diner is really like.
Leah Fennelly, 23, from Florida, has been employed by the restaurant chain for almost six years.
The brunette beauty wanted to work for the company ever since she was a little girl.
So when the law student landed a job at the American diner, she was delighted.
She is now set to compete in the Miss Hooters International Pageant, which happens once a year to crown a girl to represent the brand for the duration of her reign.
Explaining the ins and outs of the competition, she said: “It starts with 60 girls, then gets narrowed down to 40. Those 40 girls are flown to Lake Tahoe where we will stay for nine days practising, competing and having fun.
“I have never been in the pageant before, but I know there is a bikini portion, dress portion, and interview portion.
"All the girls are great, so the competition is strong!
“If you win, you get prize money, prestige and the chance to be the face of Hooters for an entire year.
“Being the face of Hooters would mean travelling, events, and meeting tons of people. It would be awesome!”
While Leah loves the job, she just hates the judgement that comes with it.
The Hooters girl hopes competing in the pageant will help to dispel stigma that surrounds the job.
She added: “The misconceptions people have about girls who work at Hooters is that we are dumb. I have heard it so many times and it sucks.
“I graduated with my bachelor’s and am in my second year of law school.
"We have a bartender who has her master’s degree and a ton of girls working towards their nursing degrees at my store.
"Hooters girls are smart and beautiful!”
